Stevedore Stopper Knot

 

Purpose: The Stevedore knot is another stopper knot. It is less likely to slip undone than the Figure 8 and is used to prevent a rope from slipping out of a device or from running through a block or hole.

Why It’s Important: It’s a simple way to ensure that lines stay in place and don’t slide through fittings or cleats, which is important for safety and maintaining control.  This knot is also less likely to shake undone than a Figure 8 knot.

Note: It is just one more time around the line than a Figure 8 knot.
