Figure Eight
Purpose: The figure-eight knot, or stopper knot, is used to prevent a rope from slipping out of a device or from running through a block or hole.
Why It’s Important: It’s a simple way to ensure that lines stay in place and don’t slide through fittings or cleats, which is important for safety and maintaining control.
Note: It is just one more time around the line than a granny half hitch. This is always a good idea over a granny half-hitch since this knot can be undone whereas a granny half-hitch is impossible after a significant load has been put on it.
